U.S. WASH CONVENING

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Vessel™, a collective of national WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) organizations dedicated to addressing the water and sanitation crisis in the United States, is proud to host the inaugural U.S. WASH Convening. It'll take place from May 7-9, 2026 at the Hilton Washington DC National Mall The Wharf.

The biggest challenge was building the website within Cvent, because the client relied on the platform for registration, attendance tracking, sign-ups, and other essential backend event management. However, Cvent isn’t very developer-friendly—its built-in widgets are highly limited in both design and functionality, and the platform primarily supports custom work through iframes.

The core challenge was delivering the modern, feature-rich experience the client wanted while still integrating Cvent’s required widgets for backend functionality. Many of the requested features weren’t available natively in Cvent, so I had to design and develop custom solutions that worked within iframe constraints and still felt seamless and cohesive alongside the Cvent components.

With a tight turnaround due to the site needing to launch well before the event, the focus was on quickly defining priorities and scope. The website needed to include a photo gallery from the previous event, an about section, a countdown, and a contact section—keeping the experience simple while clearly showcasing the organization and its purpose. Multiple design drafts were created and reviewed with the client to refine layout, structure, and visual direction before moving into development.

The final website featured autoplaying background videos from the previous event paired with a live countdown timer leading up to the event date. Speaker quotes were highlighted through an auto-rotating carousel on the homepage to immediately convey key voices and themes. A dynamic, interactive photo gallery allowed users to engage with the content—on hover, images revealed descriptive text, and on click, photos expanded for a detailed view—creating an experience that was both visually engaging and informative.
